Bible Study Music: Stay Focused While Reading

So you've decided to read the Bible as a regular habit. You've picked a Bible translation/version suitable for your study needs. You've designated a comfortable spot to sit, read, and take notes if necessary. You're in the right mindset -mentally and spiritually hungry and thirsty for the Word.

There's just one thing keeping you from concentrating on the text in front of you. Sound-or lack thereof. Too much noise can pull your attention away from the words on the pages. Too quiet of a room, for some people is just as distracting.

Many people choose to study with some type of ambient noise or instrumental music playing to help them focus while reading.

Playing music without words is a good way to cancel out distracting noises in your environment as well as focus your mind while reading.

The reason that listening to instrumental music is recommended over vocal music is that the brain can struggle to process the lyrics in the songs whilst simultaneously decoding the text on the written page, according to a study by the University of Phoenix.

Let me share with you some sites where you can find "study music". Some of the music provided are short pieces of about 3-4 minutes in length. Other works are several hours long. I DO NOT OWN THE RIGHTS TO ANY OF THESE SONGS/MUSIC. Thebiblein1year.com is merely providing access to them by way of recommendations to you, should you wish to listen to music while reading your Bible.

Some of the recommended sites below are from YouTube, others are from SoundCloud, and at least one of these sites is featured on Spotify.

You will find music styles from classical¹, ambient², synthesized³, contemporary violin playing⁴, hymnal-type instrumentals⁵, traditional piano playing⁶, and new age music⁷ (think alpha waves, meditation, frequency and hertz-specific music) -all which can be played as a soothing accompaniment to your reading and studies.

If you like what you hear, and are able leave a comment on the listening site, please let them know thebiblein1year.com recommended you to them. Below is a list of sites in which you can find calming music to listen to while you attempt to read the Bible in 1 year (or the time frame of your choosing).

*As a bonus, below is one YouTube channel that provides audio narration⁸ of Bible scriptures alongside soft instrumental music being played in the background. So if you're ever in a situation where you cannot actually read your Bible, this is a great alternative where you can both listen to the meditative music alongside the soothing voice scripture being read to you.

Of course, if you still want a buffer of noise, but don't have a particular preference for music, you could always listen to some brown, pink, green, or White Noise.
